Established in 2026, the School of Legal Studies is a constituent School of the Central University of Himachal Pradesh, Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, committed to excellence in legal education, research, and professional training. Located at Dhauladhar Campus-I amidst the serene foothills of the Himalayas, the School seeks to combine academic excellence with ethical values, constitutional commitment, and social responsibility. As part of a Central University established by an Act of Parliament, the School aspires to nurture competent, socially conscious, and professionally skilled legal professionals.

The School of Legal Studies offers Five-Year Integrated B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) and B.Com. LL.B. (Hons.) programmes (subject to approval of the Bar Council of India) with an intake of 60 seats in each programme, along with a Two-Year LL.M. Programme with an intake of 20 seats (including 5 Self Financing Seats). The programmes are designed in accordance with UGC Regulations, NEP-2020, and the Bar Council of India Rules of Legal Education, 2008, integrating legal education with disciplines such as Political Science, Sociology, Economics, History, Commerce, and English to promote interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, and holistic learning.

The curriculum emphasizes academic rigour as well as professional training through Clinical Legal Education. Students undergo mandatory training in Moot Court Exercises & Internship, Drafting, Pleading & Conveyancing, Professional Ethics & Bar-Bench Relations, Legal Aid & Public Interest Lawyering, ADR, Mediation, and Conciliation.

The integrated programmes also require compulsory internships with District Courts, the Himachal Pradesh High Court, law firms, NGOs, legal service institutions, and other organizations to ensure practical exposure and professional competence. To encourage specialization and research orientation, students are offered Honours papers in areas such as Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, Corporate & Commercial Law, Intellectual Property Rights, and International Law.

The School is committed to maintaining modern, BCI-compliant academic infrastructure, including a Moot Court Hall, Legal Aid Clinic, ICT-enabled classrooms, computer laboratories, and access to leading legal databases such as SCC Online and Manupatra. The library is equipped with Bare Acts, AIR, SCC, national and international journals, law reports, reference materials, and other essential legal resources.

Through legal literacy camps, outreach activities, and collaboration with legal service institutions, the School also promotes community engagement and service to society. With qualified faculty, a research-oriented academic environment, practical court exposure, and the unique learning atmosphere of Dharamshala, the School of Legal Studies seeks to emerge as a centre of excellence in legal education and research.
