About

The Department of Laws is a constituent department of the School of Legal Studies, Central University of Himachal Pradesh, Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh. Established in 2026, the department is committed to imparting quality legal education grounded in constitutional values, academic rigour, and professional training.

The department offers the LL.M. (Master of Laws) programme with an intake of 20 seats (including 5 Self Financing Seats), along with the proposed Five-Year Integrated B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) and B.Com. LL.B. (Hons.) programmes (subject to the approval of the Bar Council of India). The curriculum is designed in accordance with UGC Regulations, NEP-2020, and the Bar Council of India Rules of Legal Education, 2008, integrating legal education with disciplines such as Political Science, Sociology, Economics, History, Commerce, and English.

The department emphasises Clinical Legal Education through Moot Court Exercises, Drafting, Pleading and Conveyancing, Professional Ethics, Legal Aid, Alternative Dispute Resolution, and mandatory internships with District Courts, the Himachal Pradesh High Court, law firms, NGOs, and other legal institutions. Students are provided access to leading legal databases including SCC Online and Manupatra, and the department maintains BCI-compliant academic infrastructure including a Moot Court Hall and Legal Aid Clinic.


Admission & Eligibility Criteria

B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) / B.Com. LL.B. (Hons.) *Subject to approval of the Bar Council of India
  • Candidates must have passed the 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized Board with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks (45% for SC/ST candidates).
  • Admission shall be based on merit in the qualifying examination and other criteria as prescribed by University norms.
  • A valid CLAT score shall be considered desirable.
LL.M. Programme
  • Candidates must possess an LL.B. degree (Three-Year or Five-Year Integrated Programme) or an equivalent degree in Law from a recognized University with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks (45% for SC/ST candidates).
  • Admission shall be based on merit in the qualifying examination and other criteria prescribed by University norms.
  • A valid CLAT score shall be considered desirable.
