About Central University of Himachal Pradesh

The Central University of Himachal Pradesh was established in 2010 under the Central Universities Act, 2009. The university aims to provide inclusive access to excellence in higher education and research to emerge as a premier institution. The Department of Environmental Science, School of Earth and Environmental Sciences offers Master’s and PhD degrees and is dedicated to protecting the Himalayan environment through modern, relevant scientific research and training.

About Dharamshala

Dharamshala is located ~18 km north of Kangra town and serves as the district headquarters. It is well connected by road and air from New Delhi and Chandigarh, and by rail via Pathankot. Dharamshala is approximately 100 km from Pathankot, ~250 km from Chandigarh and ~500 km from New Delhi. The climate in April is warm and pleasant (light warm clothing recommended). The conference venue is about 30 km from Dharamshala on the Mandi-Pathankot highway (NH-20) towards Pathankot.

About the Conference

Conference Overview

HIMALAYAN HORIZONS: TECTONICS, SUSTAINABILITY, AND RESILIENCE FROM THE 1905 KANGRA EARTHQUAKE TO TODAY (HTSR – 2026) will be held 4–7 April 2026. The conference examines the tectonic framework, seismic hazard, and resilience challenges of the Himalaya with special focus on lessons from the 1905 Kangra earthquake and modern advances in instrumentation, remote sensing and geodetic observations.

The event seeks to bridge historical records and modern science to improve understanding of earthquake occurrence, mechanisms and damage scenarios — gaps that persist because early events were recorded with limited instrumentation and in difficult terrain. With denser instrumentation and satellite observations today, the conference will highlight advances that improve preparedness for sustainable and resilient futures.

Why Dharamshala-Kangra?

The Dharamshala-Kangra region is a natural laboratory for Himalayan geodynamics: bordered by the Dhauladhar range to the north and the Sub-Himalaya hills to the south, the region features diverse geomorphology, active faults and thick fan deposits — a focal point for advanced scientific research and a significant site for studying seismic hazard and resilience.

Tectonic framework & focus areas

The conference will address the Himalayan convergence-zone thrust systems (MCT, MBT, MFT), seismic hazard and mitigation, geomorphology and paleoseismology, disaster risk reduction, climate change impacts and policy matters — all aimed at strengthening sustainable development and resilience in the Himalayan region.

Call for Papers & Themes

Original research papers & case studies are invited on the conference themes listed below.

Submission Guidelines for HTSR – 2026

Abstract Submission

Submit an abstract of up to 500 words. Use Times New Roman, 12 pt, double-spaced. Include title, author names & affiliations, and a 3–4 line biography for the presenting author. Send abstracts to htsr26@gmail.com together with registration details.

Full Manuscript / Special Issue

Authors of accepted abstracts may be invited to submit full-length manuscripts for a special commemorative volume or a themed journal special issue. All invited manuscripts will undergo peer review and must meet the submission requirements of the chosen publisher/journal.

Review & Selection

A Peer Committee of subject experts will review abstracts and manuscripts and make final selection decisions for presentation and publication. Presenters must register to have their papers included in the conference programme and proceedings.
