We, the faculty of School of Journalism, Mass Communication and New Media prepare the learners to perform in a vital and challenging media environment in free societies to become accomplished journalists.

We strive with utmost care and with diligence to inspire the young aspiring media trainees to find out the truth of complex situations in the modern world and emotionally involve them to understand the contemporary developmental issues from practical life situations and communicate these to the needy.

We inculcate the habit of reasoning, logical thinking and judgment in the students before coming to a conclusion which is very essential for the media professional.

We give utmost importance to the quality of teaching learning process. We provide them hands on training in various media formats which encourage them to set themselves as role models in the field of Journalism and Mass Communication.

Our School is one of very few Media Schools in the county offering a Choice Based Credit System with core subjects and interdisciplinary subjects which are essential to understand the versatility of the profession. As prospective students they will acquire multidisciplinary knowledge which is the core strength of a journalist.

Vision
In this age of convergence the focus of media education is shifting from conventional media forms to national and multinational media conglomerates that are shaping the form and substance of practices and texts of the multifarious media industries at both global and local level. The vision of the school is to encourage the young media professionals to critically interpret the old and the new media both as technologies and as sources of information and media content so that the dynamics of media education in this country should be practiced at par with the global media schools.

Mission
The School of Journalism, Mass Communication and New Media will strive to produce responsible and socially accountable journalists and communication practitioners who possess and equipped with theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of Journalism and Mass Communication to serve the society at local, regional, National and at International level.

Objectives
  • The School of Journalism, Mass Communication and New Media was established in the year 2011-12 with a broad objectives to provide the students practical hands on training in the field of Journalism, Media and Communication Studies.
  • The courses offered by the school are designed in such a way that the learners will equip knowledge by combining the theoretical aspects with the real industry practices.
  • The School is in the process of establishing a State of Art Communication laboratory, audio-visual production studio with all necessary equipment.

Activities

  • Students participated in various cultural activities during the “International Conference on Sociology of Law” which was held in University on 10th-12th September 2011.
  • Students participated in “Blood Donation Camp” which was organized by the Social Work Society of the University on 4th Oct., 2011.
  • Students had visited All India Radio- Dharamshala to learn the art of radio broadcasting.
  • Students went for Field Visit to the office of Dainik Jagaran on 19th March 2012 to understand the process of news production.

Future Planning

  • The school is planned to organize an International/National Conference on Interrelationship of Media and Society in the Digital Age in the Month of November/December 2012.
  • The school is planning to conduct specialized workshops on Television and Video Production Techniques in the upcoming session.
  • The school has already started the initiatives to invite prominent media personalities to deliver lectures on contemporary media issues for the session 2012-13.
  • The school is planning to collaborate with various media organizations to organize industry oriented training sessions for the students.

The school is planning to publish a monthly Newsletter for the internal circulation.
Media Society
The constitution of a Media Society at school level to provide the students and the faculty a creative platform to discuss the contemporary media issues is in process

  • The Dean, School of Journalism, Mass Communication and New Media will be the chairperson of the Society
  • Entire teaching faculty will be the members of the society
  • The Student Representatives from each department will be the executive members of the society

The society will organize seminars, symposia, conferences, training sessions, workshops, discussions, public lectures and debates at regular intervals for the students of the school.
