Welcome to the Central University of Himachal Pradesh and Specifically in School of Earth and Environmental Sciences and School of Life Science. Programmes offered in both Schools are multidisciplinary in nature with Choice based credit system. Students throughout their tenure of programme ( M.Sc. ) will get the opportunity to make basket of courses. Curricula in both Schools are focused to train the students in different spheres of Earth and Environmental Sciences and Computational Biology and Bioinformatics.

Vision
The School of Earth and Environmental Sciences is based on inter- disciplinary approach for producing trained manpower to cater the need of society in teaching, research, NGOs and Ecosystem Management, Industries, Glaciers Conservation, Rivers Conservation, Water Harvesting, Underground Water conservation, Disaster management and Earth Processes. The academic Programmes are meant to fulfill these requirements.

Mission
The School is dedicated to producing trained Environmental Scientists, Geologists, Geographers, Glaciologists, Atmospheric and Planetary Scientists, Climatologists, Hydrologists, Hydro energy Scientists and Experts in Renewable Energy.

Mission
The objective of School is to develop Scientists with multi-disciplinary training to fulfill the need of the present day society pertaining to Renewable Energy Resources, Natural Resources, Disaster Management, Potable Water and Serene Environment.

Salient Features of the Programme

  • Strong interface among Ground Water Boards, Geological Survey of India, Geographical Studies, Department of Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, National River Conservation Plans, Natural Resource Conservation and Protected Area Networks.
  • Summer Training in Department related Industry, Institutions and NGOs.
  • Development of Entrepreneurship in relevant fields such as Municipal Waste Management, Hazardous Waste Management, Forestry, etc.

Masters and RD Programme in Earth and Environmental Sciences.
The School of Earth and Environmental Sciences has been started to fulfill the vision of CUHP. It offers presently one Post Graduate Programme namely M.Sc. Environmental Science in which the student intake is 30. The School follows comprehensive choice based credit system. The students are required to earn 80 credits (2400 hours) to successfully complete their M.Sc. Programme. The students are selected based on All India Level Common Entrance Test called FEAT (Further Education Admission Test) conducted by the University followed by Group Discussion and Personal Interview. In the RD Programme, MPhil Programme has a minimum duration of 3 semesters and Ph.D. Programme has a minimum duration of 6 semesters. While for Successful Completion of MPhil Degree students have to earn 60 credits, for Ph.D. Degree they have to earn 120 hours. In view of the Inter disciplinary selection of courses, 30 percent credits have to be earned from University Wide Course whereas 70 percent will be earned from School wide courses.

The School of Earth and Environmental Science is striving to have Four Departments and Three Centres. Presently in the Department of Environmental Sciences, University has one Professor and two Associate Professors.
